Just a quick update: Ted is doing great! He reports that his pain is better, and he slept better last night without all the bandages! He worked until early afternoon and then crashed and took a 3 hour nap. He worked a little more, we had dinner, and now we are watching, "I am Legend." He begins outpatient physical therapy on Monday afternoon.
Funny comments you guys! Crystal and Suzanne, thanks for sticking with us! For the record, we LOVED all those Disney channel shows. I'll never admit it to anyone, but the Disney channel is one that I find myself stopping on more and more while channel surfing.
Crystal- more numbers for you:
Number of leftover uncrustables Holly ate: 3
Number of days it took to do it: 1 ;)
Number of days since you left: 9 :(
Number of days we've been missing you: 9

Numbers
Ted's follow-up appointment went well today. He's healing nicely and they took the bandages and staples off. They are pleased with how well he's doing. Ted walked into the Dr.'s office from the parking lot with his walker, walked to radiology for an x-ray, walked back to the waiting room, and then back out to the car without much difficulty.
The X-rays were neat. Ted is going to try to get copies. There's lots of metal in there! Ted panicked a bit when the bandages came off and he saw what the knee looks like. The incision is long, and there were many, many staples. Finally seeing what was underneath the bandages was overwhelming for both of us! The nurse who took out the staples worked quickly, and Ted was a good sport. I was hiding in a corner, trying not to look, and popping xanax.
Over the past few days, the reality of all we've been though is finally hitting me. There are bunches of numbers running through my head.... you might find some of them interesting...
Incidence of Chondrosarcoma: 8 in 1 million
Incidence of clear-cell chondrosarcoma: 2% of all chondrosarcomas
Days since Ted's surgery: 13
Amount of femur they took out: 16 centimeters
First hospital bill (so far): $127, 791.00 !!!!!!!
That does not include the surgeon, anesthesiologist, etc.
Difference in the cost of a priate hospital room vs. a semi-private room per night: $27
Amount we SHOULD be responsible for: $100 (THANK GOD for good insurance!)
Number of physical therapy sessions (so far): 10 (5 at home, 5 in the hospital)
Ted's current range of motion: 6 degrees (almost straight) to 93 degrees (bent)
Number of staples removed today: 45
Length of Ted's incision scar: 12 inches
Number of round trips to Tampa in the past 14 days: 8
Number of $80 tanks of gas put into in our SUV in 2 weeks: 5
Number of nights our guest room has been used so far this month: 13
Number of times my mother dragged me to Beall's this week: 3 :)

Where do we go from here?
It's Holly. Ted says he doesn't know what to type, so is leaving most of the blogging up to me.
Dropped my mom off at the airport this morning. We're on our own now, for a while.
Now, we have to begin picking up the pieces and piecing our life back together. Things have been so upside down and inside out since the beginning of April. It's hard to know where to start.
The house is super-quiet. Ted is zonked out on the bed, and Jack is snoring in his own bed.
The thunder is booming out the window. It's been raining a lot lately. My mom is known as the "rain goddess," but it's still raining and she's in the air somewhere over Virginia, speeding back to NH, so I can't blame her.
On Thursday, the weather got so bad, that a gust of wind blew our new grill clear across the patio, where it hit a planter, and fell over. Ted was on one side of the house, yelling to me, "The grill! Holly the grill!" Mom was on the other side of the house, looking out the window, yelling, "Oh my god, the grill! The grill!" I was somewhere in the middle, and couldn't see what was going on. Ted started running out of the bedroom, and realized he forgot his walker. He was crazy enough to think he was going out in that awful storm to pick the grill up. I haven't seen him move that fast in a long time! Ted and the grill survived, unscratched and without any dents.
Ted's follow-up appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow (Monday) afternoon. We hope that Ted's bandages will come off, and that the staples will come out. The poor guy hasn't had a shower in 2 weeks! The bandage has slipped a little, and we got a peek at what's underneath. He probably has more than 50 staples. They go more than halfway up his thigh, and we think they go down to his upper-calf. Overall, the incision is probably 18 inches or longer. Ted is hoping they'll take an x-ray and that he can get a peek at the hardware they put in. The knee they used is called the "stryker"
Last night Ted cooked dinner. He made a wonderful roasted chicken stuffed with fresh rosemary from our garden. It boosted his mood and his confidence that he got back into the kitchen to do what he loves to do.
Ted is finally able to do his leg lifts without assistance! He's very happy about that. Less than a week ago, he'd lay on the bed to do his exercises, and his face would be scrunched up in concentration, willing his leg to lift off the bed. He would get SO frustrated when he couldn't do it. Now, he can do 10 without breaking a sweat!
So, slowly now, we'll begin to pick up the pieces. Slowly we'll get back to our old routines, our old ways of doing things. Things will begin to get back to normal.
We're very happy that Ted is progressing so well! It has a lot to do with his willpower, and also, I think, all the support we've had from everyone. Ted and I have set many goals and worked as a team to get things done, but we were smart enough to realize this time, that this is a battle we can't fight alone. To know that there are so many people out there routing for Ted, and sending well wishes and prayers has helped Ted be strong and given him the will to get out of bed each day.
As things get back to normal, one thing is drastically different. We will make sure to enjoy each and every day, celebrate the little successes, and make it a point to spend more time with our friends and family members.
And every day, I'll hope and pray that the big bad monster we call the fu@%ker is gone for good.

Holly made me do it.
Hello everyone it is Ted. It has been 11 days since my surgery. I feel a lot better now, in fact better every day. My physical therapy is going well and I honestly see improvements each day.
I still have some pain and the bandages and wrap on my knee and leg are a huge pain. I think half of my discomfort is from the bandages. Hopefully they will come off Monday when I have my follow-up appointment.
I am still pretty tired. I do not sleep very well at night because of not being able to get comfortable, but I have plenty of naps.
That is about it. I am not much for writing and I am making dinner tonight. Thank you everyone for the well wishes and all of the nice words.

Getting Stronger and Faster
Just a quick blog this morning, in case anyone is still reading this.
Ted continues to get a little bit stronger and a little bit faster each day. He looks fantastic, has nice color in his face, and his eyes don't have that exhausted look they've had for the past couple of months. I'll try to get him to let me take a picture.
Ted is religiously doing his PT exercises 3 times a day, and is working hard to stretch and get his range of motion back. The bandages are beginning to pull, slide, and bother him. He's itchy, too. But he's taking it easy and doing things slowly. He's getting around pretty fast with his walker, and putting most of his weight on his new knee. I don't forsee him using the walker for much longer- maybe only for pulling up from a sitting position.
Today we need to talk about whether or not Ted is ready to return to work next week. Monday, he has PT and a Dr. appointment, but after that, we're not sure. Ted is ready mentally to get back to work, but physically, he can't sit in that position for very long.... he might be able to do some stuff from the recliner with his laptop. So, today we're going to brainstorm and figure out a plan for next week.
My mom is here! It's amazing how mothers (at least mine) have the ability to swoop in and make everything feel all better. She came with a suitcase full of surprises for Ted and me. She also brought pictures and video of Tony's wedding. We were able to see some of the special moments of the wedding. We both feel better about not being there. I'm starting to relax and feel like myself again, I think Ted is, too. He's been in a much better mood.
Off to get the house clean. Then my mom and I are going shopping! Ted loves it when we leave, because he gets to have some peace and quiet.
Ted promises to do the next post.

Getting Better Every Day
Another week has begun and Ted and I were so excited to sleep in this morning. Usually Mondays are so hectic around here. We're finally at the point where we can relax a little bit.

Here's the happy couple with my Mom and Dad. Mom looks about 12 years old in that picture!

Ted is still very tired, and has been sleeping a lot the past couple of days. It's great for me though, because I've been joining him on the couch. We have been SO LAZY!
My mom is flying in tomorrow. She is exhausted from the wedding, and probably still hungover, from what I hear. She'll be joining us for afternoon naps, I'm sure.
Ted seems to be in less pain. Each day, he's getting around a little better, and putting a little bit more weight on his knee.
He spoke with the Dr. today about how hard he can push himself. The discharge paperwork we were given said to use the CPM only at 60 degrees (bending his knee) and the PT was unsure that he should push himself beyond that if there was a reason- but that Ted is already bending his knee on his own at almost 80 degrees, so he didn't think 60 degrees on the CPM machine was doing too much to help. The Dr. told Ted to go as far as he can and bend to what he can tolerate as quickly as he can tolerate it.
So, there's not much to report today. I guess that's a good thing. We've had a couple of relaxing, very uneventful days, which is just what we both needed.
I'll end with a couple of pictures my Dad emailed me from Tony's wedding. Tony and his friends know how to have a party, and my family apparently kept right up with them. It sounds like it was one of those weddings where everyone drinks way too much, but has so much fun they talk about it for weeks. Glad it was a smashing success!
Did we expect anything less???? Tony and Krissie at their best:

Here's a cute one of Tony and Dad. I'm not used to seeing either one without their hats. Looks like they couldn't keep Tony's hat off for very long!

Lazy Day
Happy Father's Day!
Ted and I have been very lazy today. We sadly said "Goodbye" to Crystal, who flew back to Connecticut this morning. I surprised Ted with breakfast from La Segunda, the famous Cuban Bakery in Tampa. I stopped there on my way back from the airport.
We are both sleepy, so have spent most of the day on the couch. Ted seems to be doing better today, other than being tired. He's getting around a little better every day, and it looks like he can straighten and bend his knee a little bit more today.
The Physical Therapist came last night. His name is Larry. He is very good, and experienced. He said Ted is the youngest patient he's had with a total knee replacement in the 15 years he's been doing this, with the exception of maybe one person who was close in age.
Ted asked a lot of questions about the mechanics of what's inside his leg, and how they did it. He didn't even get squeamish when the PT talked about "carpentry" with saws and drills, and sanding bones.
Ted is not liking his CPM machine. It keeps sliding on the bed, and he has to lie flat while he's in it. Earlier, I was out working in the yard while he was hooked up to his machine. He was getting worried about me because I had been outside for so long, but he couldn't do anything about it because he was strapped into the machine. He got creative though, and called our house phone with his cell phone. I heard it ringing and ran inside. He's a smart one!

"This Sucks"
Ted's mood has been up and down today. He was really dragging this morning, and I had to almost drag him off the couch to shave and wash up.
He's getting around the house pretty well with his walker. He even came out this morning to listen for the sonic booms from the space shuttle's landing (Thanks for the head's up Melody!)
Ted's most recent comment was, "This sucks" I reminded him there's no going back now, and the only thing to do is keep working at it. He's getting stronger every day, and he has more range of motion today than yesterday.
We're going to distract him. Crystal and I are going to go out later and try to score some old Playstation 1 games. If we can't find any, I might surprise him with a newer version of Playstation and a couple of games. Anything to keep him happy and motivated, and to keep him from staying in bed all day.
I'm a bit bummed today too. I am "homesick" thinking about all the fun they're having in NH today. I keep asking to listen in to the wedding via cell phone, but after the funeral fiasco last year, nobody is willing to do it. :)
Our friends Steve, and Steve and son Daniel visited this afterrnoon. Ted enjoyed the visit. I don't think they enjoyed it so much though..... Jack was HYPER and obsessed with Steve S. He wouldn't leave the poor guy alone!
Ted has physical therapy tonight between 5-6pm. How cool is that. The PT must not have much of a social life if he has to work on SATURDAY nights.... that's just not right. I guess I'm spoiled by having "teacher's hours" I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Off to get Ted a "present!"

Home sweet Home!
Ted is home and sleeping in his own bed! We were both complete nervous wrecks about leaving the hospital and having to figure things out on our own.
But once we got Ted home, and got him settled, we both are more relaxed and looking forward to (hopefully) and quick recovery.
Jack was SO EXCITED to see Ted, but realized right away that "Daddy has a boo boo leg" He's been so careful and gentle around Ted. It's sweet. He's so happy to have his daddy home!
The medical supply company delivered the CPM machine, and got him all hooked up. The guy who delivered it is a nurse, who has spent a lot of time working on an orthopedic unit, so he was very helpful and knowledgeable.
The Physical Therapist called, and she's coming this evening. I had no idea that Ted would have PT on a Saturday night. How cool! It gives me today to get the house clean, and Ted some time to rest up.
Crystal made us dinner last night! Her favorite meal- shake and bake chicken fingers and egg noodles with butter. It was yummy, and so helpful. She's been so helpful this week, and having her here really helped. We are going to be sad to see her go home to CT tomorrow morning. I'm trying to convince her to spend the summer, but I think she's sick of us.
Ted is getting around okay with his walker. We got him some tennis balls for the legs last night, a bike horn, and a light-up bike bell. We haven't put them on yet because Jack thinks they're toys for him- and that could cause some problems.
His pain is "okay" and the percoset is really helping him. He's being a good sport, working hard to not stiffen up. As my dad would say, he's being a "Brave little soldier."
GO Ted! We're all routing for you! You've come so far in just a few days, keep up the good work! I know it's hard, and it would be so easy to just stay in bed and sleep, but I see that determination in your eyes, and know that you can do this! We can do this!

Wedding Bells are Ringing
There will be 2 posts this morning. The first one is for my brother Tony who is getting married today.
Hey Tony,
Today is finally here! Ted and I are really bummed that we aren't there for one of the biggest events in Parisi family history.
Being married is wonderful. It's not going to change anything between you and Krissie. You guys have been together so long you have what it takes to be happy.
You're going to be so nervous and excited that you won't remember a word of your wedding vows. But please try to relax and enjoy your day. Have fun and let Mom and Dad and your wedding party worry about the details. Everyone will have fun, and if they don't, it's their fault, not yours.
I've only been married 2 and a half years, so I'm not the best one to give advice, but I'm going to tell you how Ted and I have built our relationship and marriage.
You and Krissie always need to be on the same "team." Work together, set goals, and make them happen by working together. Always be on her side, and she needs to always take your side. It's you two vs. this crazy world. If you work together as a "team" you're going to have a long and happy marriage. There's nothing more comforting and wonderful to know that when you go home at night, there's someone there to listen to your gripes and stories, encourage you, and always be supportive. You two can do anything you put your minds to, and overcome any challenges that might come your way by working together, helping each other, and encouraging each other. It should never be "you" against "her" although some days that's inevitable. But when that happens, remember that she is your teammate forever, work through it, and get back to being on the same side.
Krissie, I guess tonight, I can officially call you my "Sistah from another Mistah." Welcome to the Parisi family! Boy, you sure are crazy, but you know what you're getting into by joining this nutty family because in my mind, you have been part of our family for a very long time. I can't imagine a more perfect partner for Tony. Enjoy your day today and keep Tony calm. You're good at that. I'm so sad I'm going to miss this wonderful day that you have worked so hard to plan. Everything is going to be perfect, and then, tomorrow, you can finally relax. Don't let Tony keep you up all night!

Funny Day
The day got off to a rough start. The night nurse forgot to take Ted's continuous passive motion (CPM) machine off, and his leg was in a weird position (half bent) for about 6 hours. He was very stiff this morning. The PT helped him to stretch a bit, but their morning session was rough.
The IV came off today. More progress. Ted was a bit worried about not having the little button to push to get instant pain relief, but the percocet pills he now takes by mouth seem to do a better job, but they make him sleepy.
We had visitors today! Our friend Steve and his adopted son to be stopped by this morning and stayed for lunch. Their visit really seemed to lift Ted's spirits, and he's certainly sick of listening to me, so he enjoyed the visit. Steve and the kiddo make a great pair. I'm so excited for them and the upcoming adoption. They are perfect for each other and a cute little family.
Then, I ran home and picked up Crystal. Ted was in a great mood when we got back to the hospital. We spent a few minutes giggling about the funny looking stuff they tried to feed him for dinner- who puts whipped cream on peanut butter cookies??? YUK!
The mood was light and the laughing began. Crystal and I had some humorous moments in the elevator. The elevator ride to and from the 9th floor is tedious, but entertaining. Today, it was especially so. We headed down to the food court to get Ted some "real" dinner and to scope things out for ourselves.
The elevator stopped on the 8th floor, and a group of silly, young guys and one girl got on laughing and carrying on. I knew we were in for quite a ride.... the "big" kid in the group plopped down on the floor of the elevator remarking that it was going to be a long ride. It sure was.... the elevator stopped at every single floor, and the "kids" were being so obnoxious that nobody wanted to get on. Picture the YouTube vidoes of teens acting like jackasses in public with the horrified face of an old lady (only the old lady is me and I'm trapped in an elevator with them. There was lots of bathroom humor- picture an elevator opening to someone mooning you.... By the time we got to the 1st floor, Crystal and I had to duck into a bathroom we were laughing so hard. We tried so hard not to laugh at the silly juvenile things they said and did in the elevator, but it really was so outrageous that we couldn't even believe we experienced that.
Fast forward a couple of hours. It has been said that Ted might be discharged from the hospital tomorrow! YAY for him!
Well.... not yay..... he's still in rough shape, and moving into a chair, or using the bathroom, and dressing. I was not prepared for how much assistance he is going to need, especially these first couple of weeks. The reality of that is very scary. It took a great deal of effort and time to help Ted get up out of his chair, use his walker to get to the bathroom, use the bathroom, back out of the bathroom, line up with the bed, get in bed, get his legs in the bed, etc.
It will be great to have him home, but SCARY until he figures out how to get around!
Okay, so here's why Ted owes me BIG TIME! The physical therapist gave Ted a special toilet seat to use at home. Bascially, it just sets on top of our regular one, but it's super thick, so he won't have as much trouble standing back up. The seat is not in any sort of packaging, and it's impossible to tell whether it has been used or not before.
So, because of Ted's upcoming discharge, I decided it was time to bring the toilet seat home. We tried putting it in a bag I found in Ted's room and it didn't fit. Then, I emptied out the suitcase into the bag, and tried to fit the toilet seat into the (carryon size) suitcase. No fit.
I quickly realized I'd be making the 9 floor elevator ride and the subsequent 10 minute walk to the car carrying a toilet seat.
Crystal was mortified and walked about 1o steps behind me, rolling her eyes, pretending she couldn't POSSIBLY be with the crazy lady with the toilet seat. Sure enough, we got a comment and some laughs from a lady who joined us in the elevator. Crystal was in the corner of the elevator laughing so hard she almost peed herself.
The elevator just HAD to stop at almost every floor. Each time a person got in, I'd point to someone else on the elevator and say, "It's hers!" When the elevator finally reached the first floor, there was a crowd of people waiting to take the elevator. When the doors opened, all eyes were on toilet seat. A couple started giggling. An old lady's eyes got wide... and so began the very, VERY long journey to the parking garage with the toilet seat. I might as well have been wearing it on my head with the looks I got. I almost did, but I still can't be sure the thing hasn't been used before. Crystal stayed pretty far away pretending she had nothing to do with me or my seat. She was purple from laughing by the time we got to the car though.
The toilet seat is now home, but if we have to bring it back someday, Ted is going to be the one to do it. Once is one time too many to carry a toilet seat anywhere.
It's good that we're laughing! Just after Ted got his diagnosis, I never thought I'd laugh again... there were only tears for quite a few days. So, this funny day was a blessing, a wonderful gift. It's nice to laugh again.

The Healing Begins
Ted is healing well. His fever and heart rate are down, and he has good blood pressure. He looks good, but won't let me prove it to you with a picture.
Physical Therapy came in bright and early this morning. You should have SEEN the look on Ted's face when they told him he was going to get out of bed! I think he was counting on a quiet day of napping and getting pumped full of nice pain killers.
Ted not only got out of bed, but walked the hallway, and spent the rest of his day sitting in a chair and checking out the view. They finally let him get back in bed after dinner, but he's hooked up to that awful continuous passive motion (CPM) machine that makes his leg bend and straighten. It hurts, but it's supposed to make his recovery quicker and help him keep from stiffening up.
He's tired, but he's in a good mood and told me to say that "Everyone is SO NICE and I really appreciate all the concern and nice words." He said some more, but he tends to babble with the pain meds they're giving him.
He's really touched, and so am I! We are truly blessed to know and love all of you!

The Room with a View
We finally made it to Ted's room late last night- around 10:00pm. We did get that private room we bugged everyone about. In addition to Ted's bed, it has a couch, a comfy reclining looking chair, and 2 regular chairs. The room has 3 windows overlooking Tampa Bay and Davis Island. It's truly a room with a view.
This early in the morning, the bay looks smooth and peaceful, the sky is a nice florida peach as the sun comes up.
Oh, you're looking to see how TED is doing! Ted had a very, very long night! The nerve block they put in his leg for pain wore off around 3am, and I awoke to Ted who was panicked and miserable in pain. The nurses promptly hooked him up to a morphine pump that Ted can activate himself. They also temporarily got the passive continuous motion machine off his leg, to give it a little break.
Ted's blood pressure is high and he has a low fever. They still don't have the heartrate down, so we'll be dealing with that today.
Stay tuned for more.... the Dr's are doing their rounds.

Tick Tock
8:53pm.
Still waiting. Recovery nurse will not give me any information. Ted is still in the recovery room, 5 hours after his surgery. They let me see him for about 10 minutes, but that was over 2 hours ago.
So, still sitting in this waiting room where I have been for the past 9 hours. There is pretty much nobody else here, just a few stragglers, in the same boat I'm in. I think there is one person still in surgery.
Hopefully Ted is resting peacefully and not in any pain. I am livid that nobody will tell me what's going on and when he'll be able to go to his room. This is getting ridiculous!
My cell phone is dead and I have no reception here, so please don't be alarmed or offended if you do not get a phone call tonight. I'm about ready to find a corner and sleep here in this waiting room.
Nighty-night!

Do I still have cancer?
7:41pm. I finally got to see Ted in the recovery room! He's still in there. His heart rate is a little bit fast, and once it goes down a bit, he can go to his room.
The first thing Ted asked me when I saw him was, "Do I still have cancer?" To which I could happily and confidently reply, "NOPE!" That was the best thing we've both heard in months!
The monster is gone! See ya!
It has been a very long day. I'm still sitting in the surgical waiting room where I have been since this morning. There was apparently a shortage of rooms, and until I threatened to have him transported to another hospital, I was being told he'd have to sleep in the recovery room tonight. I persisted, nicely, and now we have a private room waiting for us.... ready for the room number? C911. YUP! 911.
I am so grateful that my friend Susan spent the day with me here at the hospital. If you don't have a friend who is a guidance counselor, find one, because they make fantastic friends! Susan entertained me, made me laugh, and provided much distraction for this very, VERY long day! It was nice to catch up with her, and she was right there to help me stay sane when I started to lose it! Susan, I couldn't have done it without you! We owe you BIG TIME!
I'm so thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives!
More later...... once Ted gets a room!

It's GONE!!!!!
Ted's Dr. just came out to talk to me. The surgery went as planned. It took a full 3 hours, but they got the fu#%ker out. He's still in the OR getting a couple of units of blood. The Dr. said that's nothing to be concerned about.
Thanks for the prayers and well wishes ! So far, so good! The monster is gone!
Now, the long recovery begins!!!! Okay, I'm off to harrass the nurse again about a private room.
That's all for now!

Surgery begins! FINALLY!
After a very long morning of watching TV, Ted was finally taken to surgery around 1:00pm. Surgery was delayed a few hours due to complications from his Dr Walling's previous surgeries.
Dr. Walling gave us good news just before they hit Ted with the "happy juice." CT scan results from last week showed no lesions in his lungs.
We won't know anything until around 4:00pm probably.
I'll end with a quote from my favorite children's book..... "GO away big green monster, and DON'T COME BACK!!!!!!"

Surgery is at 10:00am
Ted's surgery schedule has been changed for tomorrow. Instead of 7:30, his surgery has been postponed until 10:00am. Now we can sleep until 5:30am instead of having to get up at 3:30am.
We were hoping to have the surgery over and out of the way by 10:00, but we don't really have a choice. The Dr. has the Operating Room booked for Ted from 10:00 until 1:20pm. I'll keep everyone posted as the day progresses tomorrow.
We still don't know results from the CT scan of Ted's lungs he had last Wednesday. The Dr. was supposed to call today, and he didn't. It's really nerve-wracking making us wait.
We had a quiet day today. Ted's knee has been really sore all day. and I've had my nose in a book. Our niece Crystal and I both took long naps this afternoon after sleeping until 10:00. It will be early to bed tonight, too. We're getting rest while we can. Tomorrow is going to be a long day for all of us.
Jack and Crystal are getting along well. Yesterday, when Crystal got up, Jack had forgotten she was visiting, and growled and barked at her like they had never met. This morning, Jack kept checking down the hallway waiting for Crystal to get up. Jack has been trying to convince Crystal to let him kiss her all day. He just doesn't understand why she doesn't want his slimy tongue all over her. Crystal shared her pizza with Jack at dinnertime, so now she'll be his best friend forever.
Well, our suitcase is packed, and we're pretty much as ready for tomorrow. Ted keeps joking we're going on "vacation" and hopes that our accommodations will be four star.
I hope we don't get stuck in a hospital room with a crazy old man again. The 3 hours we spent in a semi-private room after Ted's biopsy surgery were amusing, but neither of us would have been able to take much more than that. The weird old man was frantically typing numbers into a calculator and pretending to talk to people on the phone. Then, he started harassing the nurses. I can't be sure, but I think it was more than the pain medication making him wacko.
Send good thoughts tomorrow! We're going to get that fu@%er out!!!!!

Uncle Ted
Our niece Crystal is visiting from Connecticut. This picture was taken last night at the Rainforest Cafe. We had a nice dinner out. "U. Ted" was able to walk from the parking lot to the restaurant and back without any trouble. It was great to get out and have some fun.
Crystal is all grown up! She has grown into a smart, funny, beautiful and caring woman! She took the week off from work to stay at our house and keep track of things here at home during Ted's surgery and hospital stay. We are so lucky to have her, and are sooooo thankful that she's here. We are boring her to tears I'm sure, but it is great to have her here, and it's a very nice distraction.
Ted is resting up for Tuesday's surgery. We let him sleep until noon today! Ted has been a good sport and has been letting me fill him full of antioxidants. He has eaten more fruits and vegetables in the past week than he has in a month. Plus, I've been experimenting with different organic juices I find at the grocery store. He drew the line the other day, after he gulped down a thick slimy green "Antioxidant Super Food" juice drink. Apparently it had wheat grass, kelp, and other "yummy" ingredients. He told me not to bring anymore of that home unless I was planning on drinking it myself. I did convince him to have some blueberry pomegranate juice this afternoon.
Some of you reading this may remember the time I convinced Ted to drink a bottle of black cherry juice when he had gout... If you don't know what happened, ask Ted about it sometime!
I'm lucky he still "humors" me by drinking green slime. Hey, I'm willing to try ANYTHING to get him healthy and keep him that way.
Keep up the happy thoughts and prayers!

Welcome!
Welcome to our blog! Ted and I have set up this blog to keep our friends and family updated on the latest with Ted's tumor and his treatment.
Our motto this week is "Get the fu@%er out!"
Sorry for the nasty language, but that's our name for his tumor. It represents our anger and hatred for this nasty "thing" that has turned our world upside down. I also hope you see that we're trying to have a sense of humor.
To read more about the type of tumor Ted has, see this site: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/adult_bone/chondrosar.cfm
Those of you who know Ted well can appreciate his sense of humor, and his frequent laughter. Despite the tough couple of months we've had getting to Ted's diagnosis, Ted's laughter and joking have not subsided. He continues to joke, and giggle, and make us all smile!
Ted's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10th at 7:30am. That is when they'll take the
fu@%er out and replace his knee and a large portion of his femur.
I'll end by saying that we are so grateful for the amazing family, friends, and coworkers we have! We have been offered many words of kindness, support, and prayers. Keep it up. We couldn't do it without you!
